Surreal and shimmering, Versa is catching eyes and ears with powerful instrumental music and immersive analog projections. The project is an audio/visual collaboration between process-based artist Monika Hauck and musician Alex Ricci. Sonically, Ricci’s psychedelic bass guitar leads feature in expansive and progressive soundscapes. Visually, Monika Hauck uses cymatics to illustrate physical vibrations of music. Her colourful synesthetic display is projected centre stage. Between each piece of composed music, monoprints are pulled from the top of the liquid bath. These seismograph-esque artifacts are available to the audience as a unique “record” of the performance. The collective is strung together live by Will Vandermay’s appropriately outrageous drumming, atmospheric synth by Todd Harrison and spurtive saxophone by Danny B. Versa has performed at Canadian music and art events including Hillside Festival, Hold Fast St. John's, Kazoo! Fest, Wavelength Music Festival, and Nuit Blanche Ottawa/Gatineau.
